AMS, part of the Teamworks product suite, is a human performance optimization platform designed to meet the needs of modern sports and military organizations. Currently integrated with more than 100 different technology products, Smartabase is an athlete management system that serves as the source of truth for physical performance data, medical record-keeping, and more.

We are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic Senior Back End Engineer who can architect, develop, and optimize the market-leading solution for athlete performance management and help us scale it to support a rapidly expanding market. Expect to work on a system meant to rapidly ingest, aggregate, and help people make sense of real-time data coming from thousands of wearable devices at once.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teammates and stakeholders to analyze product problems and system performance, contributing to the development of secure, performant solutions that scale.
  • Write, test, and deliver high-quality code for APIs, web services, and Java applications, adhering to engineering standards.
  • Participate in design and architecture discussions to contribute to building scalable and maintainable solutions.
  • Focus on crushing bugs, optimizing performance, and enhancing the reliability of the system.
  • Maintain and improve coding standards by participating in code reviews and providing constructive feedback.
  • Automate away repetitive tasks, and help the team find opportunities for automation.
  • Identify bottlenecks in process and performance to improve efficiency.
  • Maintain the strength of the engineering team through mentorship, delegation, and collaboration.
  • Produce useful and concise application and infrastructure documentation for appropriate audience.

Requirements:

  • Experience with building enterprise SaaS applications developed in Java and AWS that operate at high scale for 100,000+ concurrent users.
  • Experience diagnosing and addressing JVM memory issues using tools such as heap forensic analyzers.
  • Proficiency with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL schema and query design, maintenance, and performance optimization.
  • Knowledge of authentication standards and technologies like SAML and OIDC.
  • Proven ability to write and maintain test suites to validate software quality and performance under load.
  • Experience improving software release processes, including performance benchmarking and automation.
  • Strong ability to focus on solving problems, delivering results, and driving impactful changes quickly and effectively.
  • Experience working with Linux servers and basic server management.
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling such as GitLab.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience with GWT (Google WebToolkit) is considered a bonus.
  • Understanding of Infrastructure as Code tooling (Terraform) with a mind to automate solutions where possible.
