As Senior Counsel, you’ll play a key role in building Science’s legal department and supporting the company across a wide variety of legal matters, including commercial agreements, product counseling, intellectual property, privacy, disputes, corporate governance, and healthcare regulatory issues. The right candidate will have specialized expertise in at least one of these areas and the ability to quickly learn new material and deliver practical guidance across the company. This role reports to the General Counsel.

Role responsibilities:

  • Draft, negotiate, and close a wide range of commercial agreements
  • Support corporate and financing matters, including board and stockholder consents, equity grants, cap table administration, financings, investor diligence, and corporate formalities across our US and international entities
  • Partner with the regulatory, quality, and clinical teams on submissions, notified body interactions, and post-market obligations
  • Advise on privacy and data protection, including GDPR, HIPAA, and emerging state neural data laws
  • Advise on operations, product development, and marketing content
  • Handle employment matters across multiple jurisdictions
  • Support intellectual property strategy spanning patents, trademarks, licensing, trade secrets, and open source software
  • Develop templates, policies, playbooks, and automations that enable a small team to support a company of this scale and complexity

Key qualifications:

  • A JD and a California license
  • At least three years of legal practice
  • A track record of taking on unfamiliar legal problems and quickly reaching pragmatic, defensible answers
  • Strong skills and instincts around legal automation, including experience using LLMs to do substantive legal work
  • Integrity, sound judgment, and levelheadedness under pressure

Preferred qualifications:

  • Commercial contracting experience at a company selling regulated hardware or medical devices
  • Corporate experience at venture-backed companies, including priced rounds, convertible instruments, spinouts, acquisitions, equity administration, and board mechanics
  • European legal experience, particularly GDPR, EU MDR, and employment matters
  • Experience with medical device regulatory issues, neurotechnology, brain-computer interfaces, or implantable devices

Salary/Pay Range:

Science is required under California law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. We determine your level based on your interview performance and make an offer based on the indicated salary band. The base salary range for this full-time position is $200,000–$300,000 annually + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please keep in mind that the equity portion of the offer is not included in these numbers.
