BACKGROUND
restor3d enables surgeons to improve the reconstruction and repair of the human body through 3D printed implants with enhanced anatomical fit and superior integrative properties. We leverage expertise and experience in 3D printing of key biomedical materials spanning a wide range of properties, seeking to improve medical device solutions.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Manufacturing Engineering Co-Op will be responsible for the development and continuous improvement of processes associated with the fabrication of medical devices.
The spots we're filling are for Spring 2025 and Summer 2025.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBLITIES
Principal responsibilities for the position include the following. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
•Development and Implementation of manufacturing processes for medical devices including but not limited to implants, instruments, and production aids.
•Support design for manufacturability initiatives for new product development.
•Lead continuous improvement initiatives and manage implementation.
•Collaborate with other departments for prototyping and process capability studies.
•Perform mechanical testing for product development and production monitoring.
•Train and assist line operators on manufacturing processes and use of equipment.
•Assist with IQ, OQ, and PQ of equipment and processes.
EDUCATION
•Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from a four-year college in an engineering discipline (ME, BME, MSE, IE, etc.) is required.
•Ability to work a minimum of 3 co-op terms in Durham, NC (alternating with academic semesters)
EXPERIENCE
•Base level curriculum in engineering discipline is required
•Experience in the use of basic machine shop tools and equipment is preferred.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
Position may involve the use of:
•Basic hand tools
•Direct metal printers
•Polymeric 3D printers
•Milling machines
•Wire electric discharge machine
•Media blasting cabinet
•Furnace or ovens
•Materials testing frames
•Cleaning and inspection equipment
•Sealing and packaging equipment
•Respirator, protective clothing, eye protection, and hearing protection
MATERIALS HANDLING / EXPOSURE
Position may involve handling of or exposure to metallic powders and other powdered materials, mill coolant, tapping fluid, polymeric resins, cleaning solutions, inert gases, and acids.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
Position requires the ability to intermittently lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Position may require
extended periods of standing, extensive work with mechanical equipment and tools, as well as
occasional squatting, kneeling, and working with a ladder.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions include standard office and laboratory conditions as well as conditions of a
machine shop. Machine shop conditions may include noise, dust, and temperature extremes.
